This show will include video, photography, painting, drawing and sculpture addressing issues of access to public transportation, education, employment, housing, and health care; discrimination toward people with disabilities that aren't visible and inequity in civic and social life experienced by people with atypical bodies, as well as many other issues. Arts Unbound will also present a special screening of When We Walk by award winning filmmaker Jason DaSilva during the exhibition's opening reception on Thursday, October 20. This short film is an addendum to DaSilva's Emmy Award winning documentary When I Walk chronicling DaSilva's personal experience during the seven years following his diagnosis of primary progressive multiple sclerosis. POLITICO is part of a collaboration that showcases four arts organizations (SOPAC-South Orange; Arts Unbound- Orange; The Baird Center's Pierro Gallery- South Orange; and Valley Arts Firehouse Gallery- Orange) connected by geography, and the desire to create a richer experience for viewers. This four-part exhibit gives artists a voice in some of the sizeable issues that are informing the 2016 November presidential election. The exhibitions can be enjoyed separately, as well as in conjunction with each other. Arts Unbound is dedicated to the artistic achievement of people living with disabilities and seniors. They provide visual arts education and professional development to help emerging artists compete on the retail market. By promoting the work of artists with disabilities and seniors, Arts Unbound centers their art-making rather than any impairments and by doing so challenges the stigma associated with disability and aging. The gallery is located in the Valley Arts District at 544 Freeman Street, in Orange. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm, Saturdays noon-5pm, and by appointment. www.artsunbound.org (Arts Unbound – 973-675-2787) End
