The magazine cited jobs, affordable housing, property taxes, public schools, healthcare, recreational opportunities, and low crime as its criteria for the methodology in determining its rankings. Council President Craig Bowen said that it was a great accomplishment to be recognized by a highly-regarded national publication such as Money Magazine. "The Township Council made some very difficult decisions to reduce the cost of government and invested millions of tax dollars to improve Bristol Township," Bowen said. "It's nice to be saluted nationally." Bowen noted that the Council's priorities of job creation, improving housing stock, lowering property taxes, and investing in technology to bring the police department up to date to fight crime have clearly paid off. "In less than five years, we have stabilized our finances, fixed our roads, replaced every streetlight, repaired every building, upgraded the sewer plant and transformed trash and recycling collection," McCauley noted that the most amazing part of this accomplishment is that property taxes were actually lowered twice while all of this work was done. McCauley credited the leadership and courage of the Council for this achievement. "The Township Council made the tough decisions and focused on only doing what was best for the taxpayer," McCauley said. "You rarely see such courage in elected officials." End
