EXETER, U.K. - Oct. 11, 2016 - PRLog -- Local man Ian Goodchild from Willand has been crowned the 2016 Hyundai Coupe Cup Champion at Silverstone this week, despite this being his maiden year.

The Hyundai Coupe Cup is a race series run and organised by the British Automobile Racing Club. This one-make series is strictly controlled, so all of the cars are exactly the same, with the same specification. With this level playing field it all comes down to driver ability. To win the Championship the driver has to gain the highest level of points overall.

Commenting on his win, Goodchild said, "I couldn't have been more excited to win this Championship. This year I have had 13 out of 14 podiums, consisting of 7 victories, 6 second places and a ninth. Throughout this Championship I have been racing against multiple previous series winners, ex junior karting champions, racing drivers with many years' experience, ex junior Ginetta drivers and even been up against guest drivers such as current Michelin Gineta GT4 Supercup drivers.  In all it was a very strong field of fiercely competitive racers; all of this in my rookie year!

"I now look forward to the possibility of racing in some other Championships for next year and some incredibly hard work over the winter to get on the grid, in what could be my most exciting opportunity."
