New York and Los Angeles Smooth R&B Decades in the making

Musicians lose touch after years but continue collaborating and re-recording via the Internet to land Six Grammy Entries.

NEW YORK - Oct. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- I remember the phone call to LA late on a New York Night.  I called Abdul from a seven 11 downtown, Prince Just died and I was feeling very mortal.  Abdul Malik Abott or aka DJ Abby Ab was on the other end of the line an award winning film Director and Musician who owns a mastery of Bass, Guitar songwriting, music and film production.  "Hey Ab, I think I got an Album here."  "Oh yeah!" he said. He had not known but I had been on a rough patch and more focused politically on Presidential politics, "Feeling the Bern" and Fighting for America and our rights along with the millennial awakening as a Gen-x er the idea Prince was gone was overwhelming.  My fear of not finishing I believe is what brought me to declare the album was finished but music is better when friends work together. It all brought me back to my musical legacy of an album a year.  We spoke about demos we began collaborating on 20 years ago, himself along with Drummer, Songwriter and Bronx Native Daryl Serano.  "A place for us.  "I think it's amazing.  We should do that one and put it out!" I pitched.  "Yes but on the condition that we re-record it. top to bottom." Abdul the perfectionist argued.  Daryl, Abdul and I went to Music High school in New York, Music and Art and Performing Arts respectfully. Abdul said he would help shoot the video, do the mixing, producing and mastering in LA where he lives while I recorded vocals in NY. Abdul is a powerhouse of creative power. https://vimeo.com/djabbyab

The title track "A place for us" is about social formalities we as Americans are forced to live with every day with respect to people of all nations and creeds living in mixed marriages. Exploring the anger, possibilities, fears and joys that come with that life.  Both my grandparents and my mom and dad were all on this new forefront older than time we call Mixed marriages. My forefathers were Puerto Rican Sugar plantation slaves mixed with diminutive Spanish farmers mixed with indigenous pure Native Taino on my mother's side and a mélange of Spanish farmer and Pure Native Taino on my fathers.

In this country of isolation and fear, when finding your simple hearts connection is the hardest of things yet again the most beautiful of things, you look deep into the eyes of someone we have chosen to love, love of your own free will then you have won. "He was alone in need of compassion." is the opening lyric to "A place for us."

"A place for us" is the affirmation that we will live life with a sense of belonging and loving who we want ultimately because we are free to choose who we love.
