WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oct. 24, 2016 - PRLog -- The annual Yours Humanly Break a Sweat for Education 5K Run/Walk, presented by Bank of the West, held Saturday, October 15, at Heather Farm Park, drew hundreds of runners, walkers, supporters, and sponsors on a crisp fall morning. Funds raised by the annual family-friendly event support the local and global programs of Yours Humanly, an East Bay nonprofit that provides underprivileged children in underserved communities access to quality education. For 2016-2017, Yours Humanly is focused on Bay Area projects, K-12 scholarships for children already enrolled in schools through Yours Humanly, and an effort to bring electricity and technology to an underserved Cambodian school far outside the capital.

"It was terrific to see the number of families and friends who made the event a shared experience to help children who so desperately need our help," says Sunny Singh, founder and executive director of Yours Humanly. The Kids Fun Run attracted a large group of youthful runners which, says Singh, "demonstrates our belief that children have the power to empower!"

On hand to welcome participants was Miss Contra Costa, Kelsey Cardamone, complete with crown and sash, and eight members of the Northgate High School Madrigals, who sang a moving A cappella rendition of the National Anthem. Close to 200 runners and walkers competed on the 5K course, with winning finisher Todd Krautheim of Walnut Creek coming in at 19:30. This year, 100 registrants running in nine different states participated as virtual runners, running their own 5K course wherever they happened to be in the United States. Miss California, Jessa Carmack, supported the cause by running as a virtual runner.

The top three female finishers in order were Kaitlyn Gosewehr (San Francisco), Rochelle Cunningham (Walnut Creek), and Kathryn Schultz (Walnut Creek). The top three male finishers in order were Todd Krautheim (Walnut Creek), Carlos Marin (Bay Point), and Michael King (Newark). Event photos can be found at www.YoursHumanly.org.
