By: Snow Cat Travel Now it's Nepal's turn as the Superhero movie "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch goes on general release. Let the Doctor Strange Tour begin! With several locations used for filming in and around Kathmandu, it isn't actually Benedict Cumberbatch's first time in Nepal. He travelled to Nepal previously as teenager and loved the country. Filming took place at the Swayambunath Temple, a landmark Buddhist Stupa that astrides a hill on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Already a popular tourist site, Swayambunath is perhaps better known as The Monkey Temple and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site too. The most sacred Hindu site of Pashupatinath on the banks of the Bagmati River, which separates the sister cities of Kathmandu & Patan and again a World Heritage Site was also used. Meanwhile, the Thamel district of central Kathmandu also features. Thamel is the "tourist area" of Kathmandu, a seething mass of narrow streets crammed with colourful shops, bars, restaurants and hotels. The amazing Durbar Square of Patan, again another World Heritage Site with its soaring pagodas and ornate temples has a starring role too. Mark Knowles, Sales Manager at Snow Cat Travel is no stranger to movie location tourism himself, in fact he got married on a remote beach on the west coast of Scotland that was the scene used in much of the movie "Local Hero". As for "Doctor Strange" he says, "no pun intended, but Doctor Strange could well be the injection Nepal needs to bring new visitors to Nepal". He adds, "all the sites featured we already include in our guided tours of Kathmandu. But I'm very excited that the blockbuster movie means that lots of people will see these wonders of Nepal for the first time and on a big screen. I'm sure there'll be a real 'wow factor' and that die hard Superhero fans will want to come to Nepal and see them for real". Asked whether he thinks that people will come dressed as their Superhero, Mark says, "I know that Superhero fans like to dress up at comic book conventions and refer to it as Cosplay. So, maybe we'll see a lot of 'selfies' appearing on social media of colourful, strangely dressed people. That would be rather fun, although many people in Nepal dress colourfully and very differently to those in the west, it may be hard to spot the Cosplay tourists!" So, will we see Superman at Swayambunath? We'll have to wait and see and if it happens. Stranger things have happened in Kathmandu and now Doctor Strange is no stranger here too. The Doctor will see you now! For images and more information on the various film locations please contact us. Or Visit http://snowcattravel.com End
