A specialist in cosmetic, restorative, and family dentistry, Dr. Rudolph has long provided the most up-to-date services to residents of the Fairfield-Westport area. The Invisalign treatment plan combines the best of cosmetic and practical dentistry, creating an attractive and less labor-intensive alternative to braces for teens and adults. First introduced in 1997, Invisalign clear plastic aligners work on the same principle as traditional braces: they cause teeth to shift slowly by being worn almost constantly. But Invisalign is removable and much less prone to causing injuries than braces, and like traditional retainers, is made from a mold of the patients' mouth. Unlike retainers, Invisalign is slightly shifted from the real tooth pattern, so that as patients replace their aligner about once every two weeks, their teeth will gradually be pushed into place. Skilled doctors, such as Keith Rudolph, are able to plot the entire treatment using software available in the office before issuing the first aligner and can continue making updates over the course of treatment. The benefits of Invisalign are many-fold. Patients will need far fewer orthodontic appointments. While braces need to be tightened about once a month, Invisalign check-up only needs to happen about once every six weeks. The ability to easily remove Invisalign during teeth brushing and flossing makes it less likely that the patient will develop periodontal disease or excessive plaque build-up, and its removal during meals and exercise means patients will be able to eat their preferred foods, and not have to worry about injuring themselves. Old-fashioned metal braces are prone to breakage which can badly hurt the inside of patients' mouths. They also require the insertion of brackets on the molars–a very painful process—and the wire can accidentally be left too long, causing it to gouge the cheek. Braces also can be uncomfortable even at the best of times, and on an adult, are often said to look juvenile. Invisalign has none of those drawbacks: it's a simple plastic arch and is clear. And while teeth veneers need to be replaced every few years, Invisalign treatments are usually followed with up by the issuing of a retainer, which helps preserve its realignment permanently. However, the proper use of Invisalign can only be plotted by a specializing doctor, such as Dr. Rudolph.
