About the Designer | Ethical Director

Tamara Leacock is a designer, who integrates recycled, discarded, and unaltered materials, such as calico, into designs and hand dyes them in her studio in Melbourne, creating unique pieces that are androgynous, oftentimes free size, and pull inspiration from Afro-Futurist aesthetics. As a stylist and image maker, she is interested in how images can challenge dominant culture and provoke new thoughts on the social body.  In New York under artist name ReciclaGEM (pronounced he-gi-kla-jen), Tamara has since 2009 created one of a kind wearable art recycled designs inspired by social and political events and hybrid American identity, through which her familial heritage from the Bahamas, Brazil, St. Kitts and the United States helps to inform her work. In 2014, Tamara launched her first RTW label, REMUSE Designs, in her new home, Melbourne.  She is a graduate of Yale University.

R E M U S E  | The Label

R E M U S E Designs is a Melbourne based clothing label where futurism meets nature. Fusing artisan techniques, dye technology, and natural fibers,  R E M U S E investigates the ways the future of a fashion is simply fashion that takes inspiration from the earth. The philosophy behind the label is to create small, ethically produced, trans-seasonal collections, released quarterly at the time of each Equinox and each Solstice. Each collection gives R E M U S E an opportunity to reconsider its impact and material choices.
