Winners of the 11th Boston Turkish Festival Documentary & Short Film Competition
BOSTON - Dec. 7, 2016 - PRLog -- Award recipients of the 2016 Boston Turkish Documentary and Short Film Competition have been announced. The competition, which is the first documentary and short film competition of Turkish films in North America, is celebrating its 11th year.

Jury members of the competition are Peter Keough, Film Critic; Jeremy Rossen, Curator of the Harvard Film Archive; and Carter Long, Film Program Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In addition to the awards by the competition jury the audience also voted for their favorites for the audience awards. Film screenings took place at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Goethe-Institut Boston, and Boston University.

This year out of 360 submissions a total of 44 films, documentaries and shorts, were screened in the competition program. The award recipient films are as follows;

Best Short Film Award: "The Translator" (Çevirmen), directed by Emre Kayış.

Best Documentary Award: "Istanbul Notes" (İstanbul Makamı), directed by Özlem Sarıyıldız and Yunus Emre Aydın.

Best Short Film Audience Award: "Then I Woke Up" (Sonra Uyandım), directed by Atilla Ünsal.

Best Documentary Audience Award: "Baksı: From Utopia to Reality" (Baksı: Ütopyadan Gerçeğe), directed by Bahriye Kabadayı Dal.

Once again this year special mentions were announced in the competition.

Special Mentions in the Short Film Category are:

"0Rh-", directed by Taylan Mintaş.

"Azad", directed by Yakup Tekintangaç.

"Beloved by Britain", directed by Mahir Güden.

"FareWellcome", directed by Roko Noyan Babataşı.

"Kite" (Uçurtma), directed by Serdal Altun.

"The Olive Tree at the Border", directed by Sholeh Zahraei and Kamil Saldun.

"The Spider Web" (Bir Örümcek Ağı / Une toile d'arraignée), directed by Hüseyin Aydın Gürsoy.

Special Mentions in the Documentary Category are:

"The Children of Rafet" (Rafet'in Çocukları), directed by Mümin Barış and Reşit Ballıkaya.

"Far from Homeland" (Ülkemden Uzakta), directed by Haydar Demirtaş.

"Fidelity" (Vefa), directed by Baran Vardar.

"İdil Biret: The Portrait of  a Child Prodigy (İdil Biret:  Bir Harika Çocuğun Portresi), directed by Eytan İpeker.

"Lost Homeland' (Kayıp Vatan), directed by Aydın Kapancık.

"Son of the Mountains" (Dağların Oğlu), directed by Yavuz Selim Taşçıoğlu.

"Up and Down Galata" (Aşağı Yukarı Galata), directed by Ali Uluç Kutal.

Winners of best film awards in the competition will meet again with the cineasts at the 16th Boston Turkish Film Festival in March 2017.

The competition will begin accepting submissions for next year on February 1, 2017.
