Record number of nonprofits receive grants from SIA Foundation

LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Dec. 13, 2016 - PRLog -- The SIA Foundation awarded $77,514.19 in grants to 13 Indiana nonprofits. This grant cycle breaks the record for the largest amount given by the foundation in a single grant cycle and the most nonprofits receiving a grant in one cycle. A ceremony was held at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. today to award the organizations and present them with their grant. Recipients of this grant cycle represent Allen, Hancock, Marion, and Tippecanoe counties.

The SIA Foundation awards grants twice annually to nonprofit organizations seeking capital funding in arts and culture, health and wellness, or education programs. Information on the SIA Foundation and the grant application process can be found at siafoundation.org/.

Grant recipient organizations for the December 2016 grant cycle are:

Center of Wellness for Urban Women:Marion County - $10,000 – Health & Welfare

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase supplies to build high raised beds, a tool shed, benches, a walking path, and a shaded sitting area for an urban farm.

Indiana 4-H Foundation: Tippecanoe County - $10,000 – Education

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase 10 STEM kits which will include 3D printing pens, Edison robots, and makey makeys.

Lafayette Daybreak Rotary: Tippecanoe County - $10,000 – Health & Wellness

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase and install water refill stations in Lafayette and West Lafayette parks.

Lafayette School Corporation: Tippecanoe County - $10,000 – Education

SIA Foundation grant funds will purchase materials for the Jefferson High School library "makerspace" to support education through enrichment STEM curriculum such as 3D printers, robotics, and computer coding tools.

Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette: Tippecanoe County - $2,500 – Arts & Culture

SIA Foundation grant dollars will be used to replace windows for the 115 year old Monon Depot Theatre with high efficiency models that will not only improve the aesthetic of the building, but also improve heating and cooling costs.

Right Steps Child Development Centers: Tippecanoe County - $6,012 – Health & Welfare

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase and install an under counter, energy efficient, industrial dishwasher, which will safely clean up after approximately 3,000 points of food service per month.

Matthew 25: Allen County - $5,645.80 – Health & Welfare

SIA Foundation grant funds will purchase three vital signs monitors, which will be used to check temperature, blood pressure, oxygen level and pulse.

Wea Ridge Middle School: Tippecanoe County - $5,325.16 – Education

SIA Foundation grant funds will purchase 3D rapid prototyping printers, which will enhance the student's experience and increase the enrollment in S.T.E.M. career paths.

Shepherd Community Center: Marion County - $4,717.23 – Education

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase five projectors to use as educational tools in classrooms.

St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf: Marion County - $4,464 – Education

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase equipment specific to helping children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra: Allen County - $3,950 – Arts & Culture

SIA Foundation grant dollars will purchase a harp and xylophone case, which will protect the instruments and save replacement and repair costs.

Hancock County Children's Choir: Hancock County - $2,500 – Arts & Culture

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase a new Macbook Pro for the organization's design work, grants, and program production.

Visually Impaired Preschool Services: Marion County - $2,400 – Education

SIA Foundation grant funds will be used to purchase two Light Aides plus two Visual Efficiency Activity Sets helping children with color recognition, visual attention, alphabet and number recognition, cause and effect, and turn taking skills.

The SIA Foundation was established in October 1997, with a $1 million gift from Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc.
