Winning Tweet: Every child deserves a bed to sleep on, a table to eat at. @furnsharehouse provides free furniture directly to families in need #DeluxeCares Winning the $10,000 grant came as a surprise to Furniture Sharehouse founder Kate Bialo who was focused on the "Power of 10" gala, the organization's fundraiser which kicked off the celebration of 10 years of furnishing local families in need. Alison Paul, development consultant, and Laura Ruddy, communications director, teamed up to enter and produce the winning entry. "What I love the most about this amazing grant is that it proves how easy it is to explain our mission – with just a few words, everyone can understand immediately what it means to struggling families to be able to obtain free furniture to fill their empty apartments and begin to rebuild their lives in comfort and dignity," said Bialo. "We are extremely grateful to Deluxe Corporation Foundation for recognizing the importance of filling this "hidden need" and making it possible for us to help many more families "make a house a home," she added. Furniture Sharehouse will use the grant to help it address a critical and growing need in Westchester County by providing free furniture to those moving out of homeless shelters into apartments as well as to other economically challenged individuals and families who do not have funds for furnishings.
