The Vietnamese railway network has a total length of 2,600 kilometres, dominated by the 1,726 kilometres (1,072) single track North–South Railway running between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam set itself in becoming an industrialized country by 2020 and has plans to invest US$ 400 billion in infrastructure, half of which will be privately funded. Under the urban transportation master plan adopted by the city, five metro lines are due to be built by 2030. As of mid-2016, there were 68 BOT projects formulated under the management of the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) in the road, highway, airport, canal and railway sectors. The up-coming project pipeline amounts to US$ 176 billion, with rail projects dominating the portfolio.
