Newport Beach Auto Defect Lawyer Featured on CNN Story about Ford Explorer Carbon Monoxide Concerns

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - July 24, 2017 - PRLog -- California auto defect lawyer Brian Chase talked to CNN about the dangers of Ford Explorer SUVs that are spewing toxic carbon monoxide gas into the vehicle compartments putting occupants at risk of getting sick and/or causing a major injury collision.

Ford Motor Company claims it has not found an issue with carbon monoxide resulting from the design of its Explorers, which is contrary to what their 2012 Technical Service Bulletin states. Chase, senior partner at Bisnar Chase, said Ford should have warned drivers about these vehicles that pose serious dangers.

"Most of the police fleets and people I talk to are putting carbon monoxide detectors in the vehicles so they can catch it ahead of time," Chase told CNN. "It would've been nice if they had a warning about it sooner."

He is referring to the fact that several police departments have stopped driving Ford Explorers over carbon monoxide concerns. Bisnar Chase is representing several victims who were affected by these Explorer vehicles including police officers and civilians. One of Chase's clients is a Newport Beach police officer who lost his consciousness behind the wheel as he was on patrol, driving his cruiser.

A dash cam video shows the officer's vehicle drifting into another lane over a grassy median and crashing into a tree line. In the video, the SUV narrowly misses an oncoming vehicle before crashing. A similar case was documented in Austin, Texas, involving Sgt. Zachary LaHood who blacked out while driving his cruiser and narrowly missed hitting another vehicle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has investigated more than 150 complaints from Ford Explorer owners about the odor of exhaust fumes in their SUVs. Ford has also settled a class action lawsuit relating to these complaints. After the incident involving LaHood, the Austin Police Department pulled 37 of their police interceptors out of service. So far, there has been no recall involving these vehicles.

Chase says the automaker is endangering consumers and police officers alike by failing to take the appropriate action in the interest of public safety.

"These vehicles pose a serious issue not just to those who are in the vehicle, but also others on the roadway," he said. "A number of these frightening incidents could have been prevented if Ford had stepped up and done the right thing. Getting this vital information out to consumers and issuing a recall could save lives."
