educogym Canary Wharf discuss governments ambitious plans to make England smoke free

The government have announced ambitious plans to make England smoke free by 2030. educogym Canary Wharf discuss how realistic this is and the effect it can have on the public's health.

LONDON - July 25, 2017 - PRLog -- Smoking in the UK is at an all-time low, just 15.5% percent of the population currently smoke, and the government has plans to reduce this to just 12% by 2022. "I think it's a fantastic plan. 11 months ago my mum stopped smoking, after years of smoking, she found an incentive much bigger than the nicotine from smoking cigarettes… Life. Cigarettes are a killer and even one less person smoking is a potential life saved" says Orlstyne Wilson, personal trainer at educogym Canary Wharf. The new plans, to drop the percentage of UK smokers to 12% by 2022 could, in effect, be the start of a new smoke-free generation, from 2030, according to the charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).

The plans, shockingly, are not just aimed at the over 18's, they are also aimed at reducing the amount of regular 15-year-old smokers down from 8% to 3%. This percentage has already dropped significantly thanks to the sale of ten packets of cigarettes being stopped, meaning that youngsters can't easily get hold of cigarettes unless they have at least ten pounds (the average price of a 20 pack). It may also come as a shock, but plans are also aimed at lowering smoking during pregnancy from 10.7% down to 6%. Mica Smith, personal trainer at educogym Canary Wharf explained "at educogym Canary Wharf, and as personal trainers, we of course don't encourage smoking, it is damaging to your health, your body, your skin and is a serious addiction. Any form of cutting down in terms of the country is a great idea and we would support it one hundred percent".

"On average, smoking kills 200 people a day in England" says Jagir Singh, Managing director of educogym, Canary Wharf "this doesn't even include those with health issues that are related to smoking and passive smoking, this, although an all-time low for England, is still a huge amount of unnecessary lives lost yearly and it could be so easily stopped if people could focus their mind on quitting".

Smoking remains extremely high in some particular areas, in particular the poorer areas. The new targets for cutting down smoking nationwide, unfortunately, do not come with any funding for boroughs due to cuts, meaning that, where smoking rates are still high and action may be needed, it cannot be afforded. Fines are also not in place for those that don't reach targets, so it really is  amatter of the public getting o n board and taking steps towards improving their health. "Regardless of certain areas struggling, we are at a turning point in society and the future is looking bright, and smoke free. Science has explained just how bad cigarettes are and as time goes on, smoking should be eradicated" said Eujanie Wilson, Shift PA at educogym Canary Wharf.

If you are a smoker, ex smoker, or non smoker, how do you feel about eradicating smoking completely? Let us know!
