Estimation of Lithium in human serum
MILPITAS, Calif. - Oct. 26, 2017 - PRLog -- Lithium, the lightest alkali metal, is not considered to be an essential human dietary nutrient. However, lithium has medicinal uses: it is used to treat bipolar depression and mania. Lithium is the simplest possible drug and, cannot be metabolized by the body. Lithium has a defined therapeutic/toxic ratio and requires continuous monitoring (Accepted [Li] in serum: 0.6-1.2 mM; Fatal if [Li] > 1.5 mM). BioVision is proud to introduce the first Lithium Assay Kit that allows for quantification of lithium in serum and plasma. This assay is quick, high-throughput adaptable, and specific with no interference from other ions such as Sodium, Magnesium, Calcium, Cobalt, Copper, Zinc, and Iron).

Key Features:

• Non-radioactive
• Specific, homogeneous assay
• Convenient: minimal sample preparation; fast protocols (1-2 hours )
• Cost effective: 100 assays; High Throughput Screening compatible
• Validated: serum, plasma

Figures. (A) Estimation of lithium in human serum. Normal "off-the-clot" pooled serum was spiked with Lithium standard. Recovery rates: 100.3 – 105.5%. Potential interference by excessive serum sodium: Serum sample was spiked with 40 mM NaCl (hypernatremia) Interference was equivalent to ≤10%). (B) Specificity for detection of Lithium (Li+) over other common monovalent, divalent and trivalent ions. Interference by tested cations: ≤10%.
