The DoT plans new telecom policy by February 2018

The rolling out of services by TSPs in these GPs are likely to boost the village level eco-system whereby widening the extent to cover more and more number of GPs in the near future
 
INDORE, India - Nov. 8, 2017 - PRLog -- The Department of Tele-communications (DoT) is planning to finalize the new telecom policy by Feb 2018, minister of communication, Manoj Sinha said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Press meet, Mr. Sinha told reporters that - we are trying to come out with the new telecom policy by Febr 2018. A High level working groups have started and we expect to finalize the draft telecom policy by Dec.
Speaking on BharatNet, the finest project of the govt to provide broadband services in rural areas, Sinha said telecom service providers (TSP) have come forward for utilizing the BharatNet connectivity programme wherein the govt intends to offer broadband connectivity to 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats.
He said – The Airtel has shown interest in 10,000 GPs for taking 1 Gbps connectivity on lease whereas Reliance Jio, Vodafone and Idea cellular are interested in taking 100 Mbps connectivity on lease in about 30,000, 2,000 and 1,000 GPs respectively. The rolling out of services by TSPs in these GPs are likely to boost the village level eco-system whereby widening the extent to cover more and more number of GPs in the near future, which will give an impetus to broadband facilities in rural India.
