Yours Humanly Delivers 500 Fully Stocked Backpacks to Houston Students

CONCORD, Calif. - Nov. 16, 2017 - PRLog -- Yours Humanly, a Northern California-based nonprofit that works locally, nationally, and internationally to empower children through education, recently donated 500 new backpacks loaded with school supplies to Houston-area elementary school students deeply affected by this summer's Hurricane Harvey. Sunny Singh, Founder and CEO of Yours Humanly, and Yours Humanly volunteers traveled to Houston and personally distributed backpacks to 250 students at Peck Elementary School and 250 students at Durkee Elementary School. Both schools operate in the Houston Independent School District (HISD).

"We were hit by Hurricane Harvey and it destroyed a lot in HISD—our children have a lot of need," says Jolanda Jones, Senior Vice President, District IV HISD. "I am extremely thankful that Yours Humanly has chosen Peck in District 4 to give the beautiful backpacks to. I just want to let the world know that there are good, decent human beings and organizations on this Earth who care a lot about our kids. Thank you Yours Humanly for helping our children. Our children appreciate you and we appreciate you."

"I was thrilled that our children were able to see 'good' taking place," says Principal Irma Sandate, Durkee Elementary. "So many of them are surrounded by challenges through no fault of their own and it is heartwarming when complete strangers show them love, compassion, and generosity. That's exactly what Yours Humanly did at Durkee."

Ila Awasthi Jain, director of the Yours Humanly Texas Chapter, was on hand for the backpack donation and says, "It was an enriching experience for the Yours Humanly team to see the beautiful smiles on the faces of all the children."

The Backpacks for Houston project was made possible through the support of the Rotary Club of Walnut Creek, Dixon Ticonderoga, Cogenics Consulting Group, Go Pro, and Tarah Davis of HISD.
