CONCORD, Calif. - Nov. 20, 2017 - PRLog -- Yours Humanly, a Northern California-based nonprofit that provides underprivileged children in underserved communities access to quality education, has announced three new recipients of its quarterly  Children Have the Power to Empower Award, which recognizes children for their outstanding acts of goodness. The award showcases "service to others" in a meaningful way and demonstrates to family, friends, and community that even children have the power to empower when they lend a helping hand and an open heart

This quarter's award recipients are Malaina Faith Ortega of Oakley, California, and Riya Kalra and Eshan Kalra of Chandler, Arizona. Ortega will be recognized at the Yours Humanly 2018 Gift of Schooling Gala on March 16; the Kalras received their certificates and medals by mail.

"We commend these young people for their compassion and hard work, and for being the kind of people who think of others before self," says Yours Humanly Founder & CEO Sunny Singh. "They are making a difference in the lives of others and we encourage them to continue to do what they can to ease life's journey for those who struggle."

Ortega is being recognized for creating and operating a free lending library for neighborhood children. By sharing her own books and those donated by her supporters, she is empowering children, whose lives are enriched with every word they read, every book they complete.

The Kalras (sister and brother) are being recognized for their history of service to others and for what they continue to do through the organization they founded, Help Humanity Today. They raised funds to aid refugees in Belgium, Greece, and Bulgaria; collected sports equipment for underprivileged children in Africa; and have partnered with local organizations such as Cloud Covered Streets, Matthews Crossing Food Bank, and the Welcome to America Project to extend their reach

Singh cites American author Richelle E. Goodrich, who wrote, Every sunrise is an invitation for us to arise and brighten someone's day.

"Malaina, Riya, and Eshan are living those beautiful words with their selfless acts of goodness."

Award recipients receive a personalized certificate and medal, and are profiled on the Yours Humanly website and YouTube channel and through social media.

The Children Have the Power to Empower Award is open to children 15 years and younger, across the United States. Nominations must be made by an adult and within one year of the act of goodness. For award rules and an application, visit www.YoursHumanly.org, and click on the Power to Empower tab.
