By: Dialysis Clinic, Inc. The new facility, DCI Frontier, will provide in-center hemodialysis along with home therapy options: home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. In-center hemodialysis accommodations include heated treatment chairs, personal flat screen televisions and access to free Wi-Fi during treatment. Patients who prefer to dialyze in the comfort of their home will be trained at the center and will have the continued support of a home program nurse. "The establishment of this new unit in eastern Montana will, for the first time, bring dialytic services along with many of the educational services offered by DCI to a very large underserved area," stated Michael Ganz, MD. "Many of the patients with varying stages of chronic disease and those with end stage kidney disease that live in eastern Montana have had to travel hundreds of miles to receive necessary, and often life-saving, medical care. They will now be able to access care much closer to their farms, ranches and homes thereby allowing them to continue being productive members of their community." Dr. Ganz, a nephrologist with St. Vincent Healthcare, will serve as the medical director overseeing patient care in the dialysis unit. Nephrologists from both St. Vincent Healthcare and Billings Clinic will also see patients in Miles City. Patients from Custer County and the surrounding area travel up to three and a half hours one way three times a week to receive dialysis. The nearest dialysis clinic for residents of Miles City is over 160 miles away in Billings. "We are excited to welcome DCI to eastern Montana and share their vision of providing important healthcare services close to home. Bringing dialysis programs to Miles City will significantly enhance the available continuum of care for many residents and we appreciate their commitment to our local communities," Along with convenient access to kidney care, the new unit will provide the community with job opportunities. DCI will employ local residents to staff the facility. The assigned contractor is seeking local subcontractors for the construction of the unit. The expected completion date for DCI Frontier is mid-2018, upon state licensing and Medicare certification of the facility. Kelly Liwosz, DCI Area Operations Director, shared, "We are pleased to be able to work with Holy Rosary Healthcare and Dr. Michael Ganz to make the idea of convenient kidney care a reality."
