Momentum Indoor Climbing Announces Salt Lake City Bouldering Gym to Open at Historic Trolley Square

SALT LAKE CITY - Dec. 13, 2017 - PRLog -- Momentum ™ Indoor Climbing announces that it will open its fourth location in Utah at Trolley Square, a shopping center that is a Utah Historic Site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Set to open in December 2018, 15,500-sq. ft. Momentum Trolley Square will offer 7,000 square feet of bouldering, a 4,000-square foot training area featuring a Moon Board, Momentum E-wall (a 34- foot wide "smart woody."), a Lattice Board assessment center, weights, and a cardio area.

While children are welcome, this members-focused gym will not offer any organized youth programs. It will, however, provide adult programming and be included as a part of the brand's popular multi-gym membership along with its Sandy, Lehi, and Millcreek locations. The gym will also offer a work and social zone where guests can plug-in and catch up on email or school work.  Due to the gym's proximity to the University of Utah, Momentum anticipates the gym will attract many area college students.

Trolley Square has a long history tied to the evolution of industry and Salt Lake City. In the early 1900s, it was a new state-of-the-art trolley fleet building that held 144 double-truck streetcars, divided into four bays. Its iconic 50,000-gallon water tower was constructed in the event of a fire. The United States' premier trolley system of its time, it included 146 miles of track, with cars that ran from Salt Lake City to Holladay, Sugar House, Bountiful, and Centerville. In the 1930s, trolley cars were being replaced by bus lines and by the 1950s, Trolley Square lay dormant, and the beloved landmark began to deteriorate.

In the early 1970s, it was purchased for retail space. Its owners were inspired by Ghirardelli Square, the chocolate factory in San Francisco when designing shopping mall. After occupancy dropped by half during the Great Recession, in 2013 local businessman Khosrow Semnani purchased Trolley Square and has attracted tenants such as popular bars, restaurants, fitness centers, and retailers. The revitalization plans have kept the nostalgic architecture intact.

Momentum also recently opened two gyms in the Houston metro area, Momentum Kay and Momentum Silver Street. In late 2018 and early 2019, Momentum will open two locations in Seattle.
