ATLANTA - Jan. 12, 2018 - PRLog -- Worries about rising costs and challenges for keeping up with the changing trends of business are a few things that people get really stressed about. According to different surveys, majority of people get highly stressed due to several issues related to domestic and economic situations.

You may be wondering what stress has to do with the dentistry and oral health. The matter of fact is that oral health gets affected from the mental situation. Bruxism is the specific medical term for teeth grinding. This health condition is primarily resulted from stress. It can be quite damaging for dental health because bruxism usually results in wearing out of the chewing surface. If you have fillings, those fillings can get damaged due to bruxism. Stress can also be the reason behind changing the way you bite, leading you to have another disorder known as Temporomandibular Joint disorder, also known as TMJ.

Effects of TMJ or TMD

Teeth grinding can result in tiredness and pain in the jaw. If the problem escalates, it can turn into temporomandibular joint dysfunction, TMD. But, it doesn't stop at making it difficult for the jaw structure to stay in shape. It can turn into other health problems which you wouldn't expect.

Pain in the ear

Ear pain can occur due to infections but you should also know that this pain is also associated with muscle contraction between jaws. When teeth do not settle with other due to reduced size caused by bruxism, the entire structure of jaws undergoes a change. Hence, the muscles connected at the 'hinge' of jaws undergo contraction, causing pain in the ear.

Swelling in the face

This one happens when situation gets worse. Teeth grinding can also result in inflammation which can change the shape of the face. The swelling in that area can cause huge pain.

Neck pain

Many of the TMD patients start to develop pain in their necks. This is mainly associated with the teeth grinding. Intense bruxism can result in aching and stiff neck.
