FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - April 2, 2018 - PRLog -- Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG), is delighted to have been the solutions provider for transforming a 52ft Tiara yacht that had old Raymarine equipment to upgrading to next generation equipment that included total integration for all its navigation, radar, sonar, transponders, autopilot and digital antennas.     The plan for VMAG was to provide the owner with the most up-to-date tools to enjoy safe sailing from South Florida to the Bahamas.

David Leone, President of VMAG, commented, "This was an interesting installation.  As the client was a professional mariner, he knew what he wanted, which made our job easier.  He wanted the very best equipment currently available, with full systems integration and touch screens".

Good charts was a priority, so VMAG installed the Navionics Platinum Plus charts that offered satellite imagery, in addition to superb chart detail.  Thousands of edits are made on a daily basis, so the user is guaranteed the most current charts available.  It also included 3D views, tides, currents and depth contours.   This experience was reinforced to another level with the installation of the Garmin GPSMAP 7612 Network Chart Plotter that has powerful processors to allow excellent user interface to the charts with incredible speed, and touch screens that are easy to manipulate, with a simple light touch.

Other equipment that was installed included two Garmin GNX™ 20 Marine Instruments for easy-to-read digits and graphs with high contrast and visibility, a Garmin Reactor™ 40 Hydraulic Autopilot to minimize heading error, course deviation, rudder movement and power consumption.

Also within the Garmin range, VMAG installed a GMR Fantom 4 with 4' Open Array Radar.   This instrument provides a detection range as close as 20' up to 72NM and a 1.8° beam width and the Fantom 4 provides exceptional close and long range target detection and separation.   A Class B AIS Transponder was installed to increase visibility even in extreme weather conditions or high-traffic environments.

To complement the radar, VMAG installed a Garmin GXM 53™ weather receiver, which is a weather receiver/antenna combo that delivers detailed weather information to the Garmin chartplotter. This rugged design instrument provides up-to-date data on NEXRAD, lightning, water temperatures, wind and wave current conditions, and forecast data even when you're miles offshore.   This information is communicated using VHF 300 radio and a new digital 8ft antenna.

The final piece of equipment installed was the Garmin CHIRP sonar which sends a continuous sweep of frequencies ranging from low to high.  The CHIRP interprets these frequencies individually and is able to create a clear, accurate high resolution image, showing depth at any speed.

Everything ran smoothly.   The only challenge VMAG had was pulling the cable through the overhead because a hardtop was added to the yacht and the cable transit from the helm had some very small openings.  This was achieved using two technicians who ran a fish tape through the openings to get a pull string through to the antenna locations.   Apart from this minor issue, the installation was seamless.

From start to finish, this project took about a week.  Although no project is the same, the format, and the way VMAG handle a project of this nature, from initial planning, to putting together drawings and project management is very similar.  When you work with VMAG, we make sure your project is on time and on budget.  We look forward to working on your next project.
