Follow on Google News | Rehabilitation Center in Memphis Examines New Methods to Curb Opioid AbuseProfessionals at a rehab center in Memphis, Tennessee are exploring alternative ways to manage pain that may be able to lower the number of opioids used by patients.
By: Addiction Now Doctors at the rehab center, called Campbell Clinic, are examining the use of a technique called cryoneurolysis among the patients who are in post-surgical pain. The technique is a type of cryotherapy — any medical therapy that uses low temperatures to treat a type of tissue. Cryoneurolysis is when extremely reduced temperatures are applied to specific nerves, until they become temporarily frozen, allowing patients to potentially reduce their pain levels. The professionals are hoping that cryotherapy will lower the number of opioid painkillers that their patients use but are also hoping to see a decrease in the complications experienced. At the moment, the rehab center has five different sites offering treatment services around Memphis. The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services revealed that about 300,000 residents are abusing drugs in the state. The impact that the opioid epidemic has had on the area has led to the creation of a number of similar clinical projects by Campbell in recent years. The center has been focused on finding new ways to reduce opioid abuse and misuse among people who have acute pain. They are also testing alternative approaches to lowering the pain of the patients who have had shoulder surgeries and would normally receive an opioid painkiller. . https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
