By: Newburyport ArtWalk The public is invited to take part in ArtWalk's free events, browse a variety of artwork in traditional and contemporary styles, shop, dine, and explore this historic port city's Cultural District. Future 2018 ArtWalk dates are: June 23rd, August 18th and November 3rd. A free brochure/map of all venues is available at participating galleries, the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the passageway between State and Inn Street and at ArtWalk Partners' locations. Among the special activities planned for April's ArtWalk are: Paula Estey Gallery (PEG): Enjoy an Opening Gala/ArtWalk Pre-Party on Friday night, April 20 from 6-8 p.m during this social evening at PEG's community-focused gallery. PEG's Spring Show "Everything That Grows" showcases new works by local and new artists, including Lully Schwartz, Jan Roy, Nella Lush, Cara Gonier, Miranda Updike, Kate Sullivan, Brenda Cirioni, Bonita LeFlore, and David Skillicorn. Celebrate Spring, Earth Day, ArtWalk, and PEG's fourth birthday! 3 Harris Street, Newburyport Indigo Artist Studio: Mixed media artist, educator and painter, Maria Malatesta will be featured with her small 4" X 4" artwork that explores geometric space and color. Studio artist and owner of Indigo Artist Studio, Mary Arthur Pollak, will offer another selection of small art, using monotype and wax works mounted on panel that can stand alone or create a grid of multiple pieces. Refreshments will be available, and the artists will be on hand to chat about their art. 53 Middle Street, Newburyport Alan Bull Studio: For this first ArtWalk of 2018, Alan Bull will be participating in a special pop-up exhibit at Soufflés, rather than at his studio in the Industrial Park. The show features new paintings of Plum Island sand dunes and surf, scenes of Utah, and paintings of old trucks from Gloucester, Long Island and other locales. Soufflés is an Artwalk business partner in downtown Newburyport (location F on the ArtWalk Map). 14 Market Square, Newburyport Connor Summers Gallery: Spring arrives along with new works of art that are guaranteed to inspire. Among the works on exhibit are the figures of Gordon Przybyla, slate carvings by Michael Updike, interiors by Marcia Hermann, large floral pastels by Janice Eaton Updike, as well as equestrian and landscape paintings by Gallery owner Cathy Connor. Meet Gordon Przybla from 1-3 p.m. 48 Market Street, Newburyport Valerie's Gallery: Meet three guest artists: Landscape oil painter Priscilla Serafin, painter and handmade gift maker Alyssa Watters, and jeweler Anke Ueckert-LaPlante on Saturday, April 21 from 1-5 pm. at Valerie's Gallery. 26 State Street, Newburyport Firehouse Center for the Arts: Ethan Lima's "Musings and Landscapes" is an exploration of the subtle changes of nature through oil paintings and sketches along the New England seacoast. On exhibit from March 28 – April 22, 2018. Market Square, Newburyport Newburyport Art Association: Sweethaven Gallery: Discover one of a kind photography of local landscapes and more from Sweethaven owner Greg Nikas. Light refreshments will be served. 25L Inn Street, Newburyport Studio 8 Gallery: Meet the artists, see their latest artwork, hear about their inspiration and enjoy a reception from 4-6 p.m. Spring Show artists featured include Norma Torti, Karen Lynch, Rosalie Cuticchia, John Ellis, Morgan Withee, Susan Hanna, and Sandra Kavanaugh. 1 Merrimac Street, #8, Newburyport About ArtWalk The 2018 Newburyport ArtWalk events are held four Saturdays a year. They are free and open to the public. A collaborative of galleries host special exhibitions, artist demos, lectures, tours, and visual art all within easy walking distance in historic downtown Newburyport. Local restaurants, cafes and coffee shops also display original art on a rotating basis.
