Workers Memorial Day Ceremony To Be Held April 27 At Northeast Florida Safety Council

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - April 23, 2018 - PRLog -- The third annual Jacksonville Workers Memorial Day, honoring those workers who lost their lives in the work environment in 2017, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at the Northeast Florida Safety Council offices at 1725 Art Museum Drive.

The ceremony will have an emphasis on the survivors of those who lost their lives in the workplace. Family members of the crew from the El Faro accident will be invited; Rochelle Hamm, wife of one of El Faro's crew members and founder of the Hamm Alert will speak; and there will be 14 empty chairs representing those workers who died last year.

The ceremony will also feature a presentation of colors by the Mandarin High School ROTC, a bagpipe presentation, and bell ringing by Florida Highway Patrol officer Dylan Bryan, with a reading of the names of the 14 individuals in North Florida who past away in 2017 and who were predominantly in the construction industry.

In addition to Hamm, speakers will include OSHA's Jacksonville Area Director Brian Sturtecky, Dr. Charles Moreland, Community Director for the City of Jacksonville, who will present a proclamation, and the Director of Safety for Flotech Inc. Frank Burns.

The event is a joint project by safety partners in Jacksonville that include the Northeast Florida Safety Council, FCMA, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Abatix.
