Follow on Google News | Snell & Wilmer Expands White Collar Defense & Cybersecurity Capabilities With New Partner in DenverBy: Snell & Wilmer Based in the firm's Denver office, Chakravarty arrives from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) where he prosecuted the U.S. v. Tsarnaev case. In this role, he led the crisis response and investigation team minutes after the Boston Marathon bombing, developed and presented the case at grand jury, trial, and sentencing, and assisted in the appeal. In addition to U.S. v. Tsarnaev, during his more than 20 years of experience as an attorney in the public sector, Chakravarty managed teams in high-stakes and complex litigation, conducted several multi-jurisdictional and international investigations, protected sensitive information and directed sophisticated forensic analysis. He has tried dozens of cases, taught national security, criminal and regulatory enforcement and has overseen investigations involving the international transfer of sensitive technologies, financial fraud and cyberattacks, among others. "At a time when government enforcement matters and cybersecurity are in the headlines almost daily, Al's extraordinary background and experience make him an invaluable resource for clients and a welcome addition to our firm," said Curt Reimann, managing partner of Snell & Wilmer's Denver office. Chakravarty will expand Snell & Wilmer's white collar investigation capabilities across the firm's regional, national and international platforms. He joins a number of former federal prosecutors at Snell & Wilmer, including Partner James Melendres who previously served in the leadership offices of the DOJ and led the prosecution of former Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus. Chakravarty will co-chair the White Collar Defense and Investigations practice with Melendres. "Al is an extraordinary lawyer, and we are delighted to have him on our team," said Melendres. "He adds significant strength to our white collar defense and investigations capabilities and will enhance our bench of cybersecurity and data breach response attorneys." In addition to his work at the DOJ, Chakravarty served as: Trial Attorney for the United Nations' International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia; Assistant General Counsel at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General. Among other distinctions, Chakravarty has been recognized with the highest awards by the Department of Justice – the Attorney General's Awards for Exceptional Service (2016) and Distinguished Service (2010). He has also received the highest investigative recognition from the FBI, its Director's Award (2016), as well as the Director's Award from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2013.
