By: Defense Leadership Forum Congressman Bobby Scott (D), 3rd Congressional District, Virginia, opened the 5th annual Summit on Monday morning with an address on the impact of the U.S. Navy on Norfolk. Companies across industries shared best practices along with strategic presentations that addressed contracting procedures for businesses. Congressman Scott Taylor (R), 2nd Congressional District, Virginia, led with a keynote address on the newly passed $700 billion defense budget where he emphasized the need to identify new defense solutions from industry. "We need a revolution of thinking from the private sector to empower our country with innovative, new defense and homeland security solutions," said Congressman Taylor. The Summit included more than 57 exhibitors, matchmaking sessions and additional speakers from the General Services Administration, NAVIFOR, MARCORSYSCOM, NAVSEA, NAVFAC, NSWC, SBA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and more. "We attended the Summit for the first time this year and I can't stress enough how great of an opportunity it was," said Arnab Chatterjee, a Summit attendee from Digital Transitions, Inc. "The quality of speakers and matchmaking sponsors were the best we've seen at any conference we've attended. The Defense Leadership Forum was really able to bring together key decision-makers and provide us with an opportunity to showcase our capabilities."
