Joint Base San Antonio Contracting Priorities Highlight the Army Contracting Summit

SAN ANTONIO - June 28, 2018 - PRLog -- Nearly 400 participants took part in the Army Contracting Summit, hosted by the Defense Leadership Forum, held June 18 – 19, 2018 in San Antonio, TX.

The two-day event brought together prime contractors, subcontractors, small businesses, defense officials, federal government officials, and state officials to identify the latest defense budget and contracting priorities.

Colonel Paul Porter, Director of Contracting - Joint Base San Antonio 502nd Contracting Squadron, provided a key presentation at the Summit with a presentation on contracting priorities, opportunities & procedures.

"I am grateful to be here," Colonel Porter told the Defense Leadership Forum audience. "Infrastructure improvements are our top priority at Joint Base San Antonio and we have $1.1 billion for contracting."

Additional presentations included Defense Health Contracting, Financing Strategies for Government Contracting, Cybersecurity Challenges, and Government Contracting Law. Especially timely were presentations on border security initiatives and priorities, provided by Sheriff Martin Cuellar of Webb County, Texas and by Colonel Miguel Torres, Commander – Texas Joint Counter Drug Task Force, U.S. Army National Guard. Advice to small businesses on how to contract with prime contractors was provided by top executives from IBM, Sprint, Constellation, and DynCorp International. The national conference and expo also featured the latest defense innovations from industry.

"The Army Contracting Summit was a big asset in helping the Army and the Pentagon in meeting its September 30 deadline of executing new defense contracts with the record $700 billion 2018 defense budget," said Howard Snow, the Summit Moderator and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy.
