Addiction treatment programs in Le Mars, Iowa are working to attempt to stop the spread of meth in Plymouth County.
 
LE MARS, Iowa - May 22, 2018 - PRLog -- Addiction treatment programs based in Le Mars, Iowa are attempting to contain the spread of meth in Plymouth County.

Le Mars has had several drug prevention programs over the years but barely focused on drug treatment.

Iowa has had a meth crisis that has spanned over 20 years but the treating the addiction and curtailing its spread has become overshadowed by the opioid epidemic.

Jackson Recovery Centers operates the only official drug treatment center in Le Mars, according to the 2017 National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse.

They have several locations throughout Iowa and the facility focuses on offering outpatient services for adults.

There are over 100 addiction treatment programs in Iowa and some of them have placed meth as the primary focus.

There were over 9,000 people who sought out treatment in Iowa due to meth, according to the Iowa Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy.

Meth in Iowa was 97 percent pure despite there being only 36 meth labs in the state in 2017.

Narcotics agents in Iowa and the U.S. Department Enforcement Administration have stated that a cheap, super-pure form of crystal meth has been showing up repeatedly in the Midwest drug trade. They stated that the cartels are motivated to reacquire the market lost by Marijuana legalization in several states.
