Follow on Google News | Fast High Speed Internet Installed on a Mega YachtDavid Leone, President of Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) commented, "Under normal circumstances, this should have been an easy project for my experienced team, however, the boat had an aluminum hull which made it difficult to spread the Wi-Fi Signal and it also had stapled headliners on the overheads. To compensate for these issues, we installed 5 wireless access points (WAP) with wireless connectivity to avoid having to pull cable throughout the entire yacht". Once the Internet was installed, in order to keep data usage down to a minimum, VMAG added a marine broadband router (MBR) 400 to enable the captain to choose between Wi-Fi and cellular. This router will disable unauthorized connections, if required. We also installed a Wave Rogue Pro Dual Band with a web-based firmware that scans for access points (Hotspots) and provides a detailed diagnostic of the quality of each hotspot, so it will choose the stronger connection when close to a marina that has Wi-Fi. Another small modem was installed, the CradlePoint COR IBR1100 which is a compact 4G/4G/LTE networking solution for ruggedized environments. It has a secured SIM card access with dual SIM slots, so if the Captain wants to travel, different airtime cards can be installed without having to swap them out. The modem is cloud managed and also has intelligent management to control data speeds and bandwidth. VMAG is providing turnkey refits for all types of mega yachts, work boats and commercial vessels. M/Y Lady Helen was a typical project and took about a week from start to finish. Our team of engineers will review a project, provide naval architectural plans and recommend a solution that not only works, but will also integrate with other systems on the boat, to maximize reliability and efficiency.
