Follow on Google News | Latest Play from Mike Broemmel to premiere in June at Theatre FestivalBy: Theatrix USA "River'd Inn has its origins in two different places, in two different times. In 2000, I lived on an idyllic farm, called Little River Farm, outside a small berg called Tom's Brook. The farm was located in the Shenandoah Valley, in Virginia. At the time I lived at Little River farm, I was a novelist and short story writer, and not yet a playwright," Not far off from Tom's Brook was Woodstock, the county seat. Outside Woodstock was the River'd Inn. River'd Inn truly does garner its name from the fact that the establishment ends up "river'd in" when rain brings the water in a tributary of the Shenandoah River to a point that it flows over a simple concrete bridge, isolating the bed and breakfast inn and its guests. These environs are the first of the two places from which this play is created. The second point in which this script realized its conception was during a "day play" competition. As part of the event, playwrights were given about five hours to hammer out a 10-page script, a piece that needed to be as production ready as possible. From this short piece, this entire play came into existence a couple of years later. "Ultimately, this script for River'd Inn was a journey that started in 2000 and ended in the middle of 2018. I could have raised a child during that time period," Broemmel said.
