ACEC/MA announces BETA Group, Inc. as a 2018 winner of Bronze Engineering Excellence Award

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - June 11, 2018 - PRLog -- The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named BETA Group, Inc. as a winner of a 2018 Bronze Engineering Excellence Awards for work on the Downtown Framingham Design and Construction Oversight project.

The 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees Beth J. Larkin, PE, MBTA Assistant General Manager for Capital Delivery and Housamm ("Sam") H. Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort Director of Capital Programs & Environmental Affairs.

BETA Group, Inc., with five offices in New England including Chicopee and Norwood, was retained by the City of Framingham's Department of Public Works and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to provide transportation engineering design work and to oversee the $8.8 million project to address severe traffic congestion and resulting safety issues in the downtown Framingham area.  BETA Group's work encompassed traffic studies, traffic signal design, roadway design, landscape architecture, lighting design, and construction oversight.  A Complete Street approach was implemented including crosswalks, sharrows, updates pavement markings and installation of landscape architecture elements such as sidewalk seating, LED lighting and planting areas. A significant public outreach component was implemented, which was critical in both gathering input for the concept as well as sharing ideas and progress with the community.
