Holmes Fest returns for 2018 with 7 new Sherlock and Conan Doyle Events in Portsmouth this June

A celebration of the life and times of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his greatest creation Sherlock Holmes returns to Portsmouth, the city of the fictional detective's birth, next week.

PORTSMOUTH, U.K. - June 20, 2018 - PRLog -- Holmes Fest 2018 starts on 27th June at the Square Tower, Portsmouth, with Three Cheers for Arthur Conan Doyle, a joyous night of original storytelling by local authors, hilarious Victorian musical hall songs performed by Hudson and Lestrade, and silent film from the earliest years of writer Arthur Conan Doyle's work.

Holmes Fest 2018's opening night will also include a mysterious fortune-teller and a fun demonstration of Victorian marksmanship with a very modern twist. Stalls will sell items connected to different aspects of the creative scene in Portsmouth, past and present, and there will be a prize for the evening's Best-Dressed Victorian.

Organiser Matt Wingett explains: "Last year was a complete sellout for the Holmes Fest night, which this year we're calling Three Cheers for Arthur Conan Doyle. The audience clamoured for more. That's why, this year, Holmes Fest has grown from one to seven unique events. Portsmouth people should be proud of our connection with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created Sherlock Holmes while living in Portsmouth in the 1880s, as well as being proud of the thriving creative scene in Portsmouth today."

As well as Three Cheers for Arthur Conan Doyle http://www.wegottickets.com/event/440210, this year's full Holmes Fest programme will include The Strange Case of the Theatre Ghost, in which Sherlock Holmes will lead you on a ghost hunt through the marvellously atmospheric King's Theatre, a night of Victorian Music Hall song with the wonderfully funny Hudson and Lestrade http://www.wegottickets.com/event/441207, a talk on the origins of the Hound of the Baskervilles http://bitly.com/BeyondTheHound by Dartmoor specialist Mark Norman and two free spoken word events .

It will all be topped off with Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost Pint, a brewery tour and screening of Conan Doyle's 1925 silent movie, The Lost World.

Matt Wingett says: "I'm very proud to showcase Portsmouth's connection to the worldwide phenomenon of Sherlock Holmes, and to champion other sides of the extraordinary life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Tickets sold out long before the event, and you are advised to book early to avoid disappointment. Holmes Fest 2018 https://www.lifeisamazing.co.uk/holmesfest is going to be great!
