By: United Premier Soccer League Based in Joliet (Ill.), Ladies Steel City FC is the first club in the UPSL's Women's Division Midwest Conference. The team will host its UPSL home games at Joliet Memorial Stadium (3000 West Jefferson St., Joliet, IL 60435), in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards. United Premier Soccer League Women's Division National Director Don Harmon said, "The UPSL Women's Division continues to spread into interested markets coast-to-coast, and we're pleased to welcome Ladies Steel City FC as the first team in the Midwest Conference. Owner Jason Almazan is growing a strong program and is looking for strong competition to match. We wish Ladies Steel City the best as it prepares to kick off in 2019." Illinois native Jason Almazan is Owner and General Manager of Ladies Steel City FC, a youth and amateur club based in Joliet (Ill.). A former youth and amateur player, Almazan, 35, played locally for Coach Jon Jacob at Joliet Juventus Soccer Club and was a four-year captain at Joliet (Ill.), West High School. He also played alongside future Major League Soccer (MLS) stalwart Ned Grabavoy with Chicago Magic Soccer Club, a member of the U.S. Development Academy, before finishing his competitive career playing for La Garita in Chicago Latin American Soccer Association. Lady Steel City Football Club Owner Jason Almazan said, "We started Ladies Steel City FC because there weren't enough options for young female players in our region. Most think soccer is done after college – if not before – and we want to change that. There is a need for more women's club and the WUPSL is the perfect vessel for it. The league is locally-focused with a national footprint, and we couldn't be happier than to be a part of this movement." Almazan also owns and operates both Steel City Soccer Academy for girls ages 13-to-18, and Future Pro FC for boys ages 6-to-18. Both clubs feature full recreational and competitive teams starting in the youngest age groups, with his Jason's son Damon Almazan, 16, recently training with the youth academies of Fluminense FC and Santos FC in Brazil and Tigres UANL in Mexico. "Damon's discipline, vision and talent has helped grow the youth club but we started with a lot of kids who had never played before and after just a year-and-a-half of serious training a lot of these boys and girls are on a level that will help them get on their high school or college teams," Jason Alamazan said. "That's why I started this – many of our players had never seen serious training before and had been cut from other clubs because of it. The parents have seen the confidence their kids have grown from their time here, and the community has embraced our club." Joilet (Ill.)-based R&R Septic and Plumbing is a primary sponsor of Ladies Steel City FC. The club soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
