"Solar Flares" is a art/science project that plans a video by Dr. Shawn Laatsch, Director of the Emery Astronomy Center, University of Maine, Orono; with music, narration and tech support from Duane Shimmel, (Director, Center for Innovation & Learning, UMO); and script by Dr. John Ripton, in collaboration with Roland Salazar Rose, a Maine artist. The video production is based on Salazar's series of eleven "Solar Flare" paintings. The Media Project grant to the artist for the planned production of the e-pub "Solar Flares" was: "Funded in part by the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts." Salazar returned to Maine in 2012 from an extended painting residency in Mexico. He is a member of the Mexican society SOMAAP; and a member of the Ogunquit Art Association (Barn Gallery); also he's a member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, and shows at the at the Portland Media Center.
