NAPLES, Fla. - Aug. 2, 2018 - PRLog -- Brad Schiffer, a Republican candidate for Collier County Commission, has received the distinguished Hillard T. Smith Community Service Award from the Florida chapter of the American Institute of Architects (http://www.aiafla.org/).

Schiffer, an architect and planner with Brad Schiffer/TAXIS, Inc., was awarded AIA's esteemed Silver Medal for his history of strong leadership and service within the field of architecture as well as the greater community.

Schiffer is an appointee of Gov. Rick Scott on the Florida Building Commission, and previously served on the Florida Fire Code Advisory Council. Locally, he has been a member of the Collier County Planning Commission, Development Services Advisory Committee, Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group, Fire Review Task Force and Architectural Standards Review Committee.

The AIA issued the Silver Medal on July 21 at Sawgrass Marriot Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach. According to award guidelines, the Silver Medal winner "must demonstrate, beyond any reasonable doubt, qualities, outcomes in works of art, programs or civic influences that have benefited the profession or the community." Architects are considered for the Silver Medal by nomination only.

"The AIA has more than 3,500 members in Florida, so it's incredibly gratifying to be selected for this statewide honor," Schiffer said. "As an architect, I help carry out the vision of our clients, but volunteering on local committees and governing boards allows me to play a role in the development of our community as a whole. That's one reason I decided to run for Collier County Commission."

Schiffer (https://bradschiffer.com/) is running for the District 2 seat, which represents North Naples, and campaigning on a platform of Smart Growth, preservation of Collier's quality of life and planning for Collier's future.

"In the next four years, the Collier County Commission will be asked to approve new commercial developments, residential communities and even entire towns, so it's critically important that we ensure the concepts of Smart Growth guide every vote," Schiffer said. "We want to preserve the quality of life enjoyed by every resident and visitor to this beautiful community."
