JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Aug. 8, 2018 - PRLog -- "Have you ever wondered what happens to the good deeds you do?" Join us to explore that question with The Pencil Project.

This author talk with author and local teacher James Ryan Orr and special guest Colleen is on Saturday, August 11 at 2:00 PM in the Jones Meeting Room at the Johnson City Public Library, 100 West Millard Street Johnson City, Tennessee 37604. This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, and no registration is required.

Pam Murray, Adult Services Clerk at the Johnson City Public Library, says, "James Ryan Orr's passion about this topic is contagious! I read The Pencil Project and found it short, easy to read, and captivating." The story of The Pencil Project reminds us that good deeds can have ripple effects far beyond what we might imagine. When young student Colleen participates in a class challenge to "Change the World" she decides to start a pencil drive for students in Africa. It may even inspire you to find a need, no matter how little, and do something about it!

Although the story is fictionalized, The Pencil Project reflects a real project undertaken by one of Orr's students, Colleen. Sylvester Renner, President - Develop Africa, a non-profit organization located in Johnson City, will also attend and discuss how Colleen's pencils were delivered to students in Africa.
