PHOENIX - Aug. 23, 2018 - PRLog -- Join us as {9} the Gallery debuts a brand-new series by prominent {9} Collective artist JoAnn Augur in BLUEprint, opening First Friday, September 7th, 6-10 PM at {9} The Gallery, 1229 Grand Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. BLUEprint is the summation of Augur's stylistic and contextual oeuvre at the vertex of her career.

Augur creates primarily in acrylics and mixed media for the simple joy of making something beautiful. Her emphasis is on intriguing combinations of color and composition that compel the viewer's eye and concentration to be drawn into the painting. BLUEprint encompasses the cohesiveness of the collection as a window to Augur's method. This series touches on the elements of her style that have made her work heavily collectible, both locally and internationally.

She derives her inspiration from all that surrounds her, from the everyday to the turn-of-the-century expressionist masters, the patina of an antique or the peeling paint on an old building to the soulful expressions of Modigliani and the color and spatial compositions of Milt Kobayashi. Black and white photography is also a prominent influence on Augur's work, specifically her portraiture. Threads of Vivian Maier, Dorothea Lange, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Mike Disfarmer can be found in some of the works comprising Augur's BLUEprint series.

"In addition to faces, I find great joy in painting a landscape. I have discovered landscapes to be a perfect platform for showcasing inspiring arrangements of color. Numerous color groupings can be expressed on one canvas. This is both a blessing and a curse as it is a challenge to combine various colors together to form a cohesive and exciting painting. A technique I often employ for landscapes includes the layering of several colors and allowing initial colors to come through in the process. This creates a richness and depth of color that I often strive for."

JoAnn Augur is a Chicago native now living and working in the Phoenix area where she became inspired by the rich and explosive colors of the Southwest. Her formal training includes the Scottsdale Artist's School, Shemer Art Center, a program in the South of France, and her continued her studies with Kathy Taylor, founder of The Center for Creative Development where Augur is also an instructor.

JoAnn Augur: BLUEprint runs throughout the month of August at {9} The Gallery.
