Scott Wilson Architect Wins Remodeling Excellence Awards for 1830s FarmhouseHistoric Tennessee Farmhouse Renovation Features Stand-in Fireplace
By: Scott Wilson Architect, LLC The project, which preserved the historical character of the farmhouse while adding modern amenities, was completed in 2017. Much of the interior of the building was completely intact, including a stone fireplace, one of the largest in Williamson County. Scott Wilson, founder of Scott Wilson Architect, LLC, preserved the interior, taking advantage of the generous room sizes. Wilson's design left the original rafters exposed in the attic and cleaned up the wood on the walls. The new design features a screen porch, bunkroom and a master suite. "The original structure had so much character and personality that it would be hard to improve on," Wilson observed. "This project offered a perfect opportunity to preserve and enhance the historical character of the farmhouse, while updating it for comfortable modern living." The owners have also added a pond and a barn, which is currently used as a gymnasium. The Master Design Award, from Qualified Remodeler, is a premier national contest, recognizing outstanding achievement in residential remodeling projects. The Aurora Awards is a design competition sponsored by the Southeast Building Conference. The 2018 competition drew nearly 400 entries.
