Local Author's Cake Stakes are Stacked High!

GLOSSOP, U.K. - Nov. 26, 2018 - PRLog -- Local author Mark Henderson today sees the launch of his novel National Cake Day in Ruritania, and with it comes the emergence of an amazing new hero on the literary scene. Rory Redman, expert in logic, marathon running and Morris dancing, finds himself caught up in a fast-moving tale of love and treachery. He also finds himself in Ruritania.

In Ruritania, a country that roams Europe like a restless wanderer, a national crisis is brewing. Cut-throat revolutionaries, national security forces and Britain's secret service are all involved, and are all overtly or covertly at each other's throats. But they share a lone goal – each is determined to find Rory Redman and wipe him from the face of the earth.

I wonder how much of Rory Redman there is in Mark, a self-confessed lover of logic puzzles. Giving nothing away about Morris dancing, Mark says of National Cake Day in Ruritania, "I've had fun with the names. Readers knowing their Greek mythology and anyone familiar with popular English folklore will recognise the wordplay. But I don't expect my readers to know the sources I've exploited or the ways I've twisted them. A novel must entertain, not instruct, though I'm happy to admit that some of the entertainment for me has been in blowing academic raspberries at instruction."

This is not Mark's first publication. Having retired to Glossop from a career in medicine and university teaching, he has built a whole new career as a collector and performer of local folktales.
