CHENNAI, India - Nov. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- E-care India, one of the leading medical claims processing companies, completed SSAE 18 Service Organization Control Audit successfully. The audit was conducted between the examination period of November 1 2016 and October 31 2017. CPA Viswanathan conducted and certified this audit for e-care. Finally, the report was compiled by IRISK ASSURANCE SERVICES.

What is SSAE?

SSAE (Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements) determine how medical billing companies should carry out their business operations and report on compliance controls. Such reports are called SOC (Service Organization Control) reports, which are classified into SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3. These reports assess the risks associated with an outsourced medical billing service. The SSAE audits help in enhancing the quality and versatility of SOC reports so organizations can provide remarkable services that are on par with the standards. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and more specifically the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) oversee the SSAE audits.

The SSAE 18 supersedes the SSAE 16 which was preceded by the SAS 70 (Introduced in 2011). It brings a series of enhancements to increase the quality of SOC 1 reports.

Important Updates:

As mentioned above, the SSAE 18 brought some key updates to the SSAE 16 and they are as follows,

1.    Annual Risk Assessment: Under the new SSAE 18, service organizations are required to implement an annual risk assessment process that will keep a company's controls, risks and more in check. This way frequent reviews will be done for improved quality of outsourced services.

2.    Third Party Vendor Management Program: Under the SSAE 16, the utilization of third-party service was reported in the SOC 1 and SOC 2. As per the new update, service organizations are expected to implement a third-party vendor management program if they were to use products and services of subversive organizations (third party vendors). This report will clearly outline the program's efficiency and how the risks are managed. It is also imperative that the third-party vendor should maintain the same standards as that of the company using its services. Further, service organizations should provide a document with a written statement of assurance.

Benefits of an SSAE Audit:

The improved version of the SSAE 16, SSAE 18 makes service organizations more standardized. As a result, it builds more trust among the outsourcing clients including physicians and healthcare organizations. The performance of medical claims processing companies improves manifolds. Although there is a lot of work and control requirements, this audit promises quality and eases overseeing third-party vendor risks and associated responsibilities.
