This playground will help club members develop their physical fitness abilities, reduce stress and promote positive use of leisure time, appreciation for the environment and interpersonal skills for club members. In October, kids from the surrounding community came together to draw their dream playground. The playground is based off their drawings and will provide more than 400 kids in McKinney with a great, safe place to play. This playground is part of a broader effort led by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and KaBOOM! to ensure communities have great PLAYces for kids and families. It will be the 38th build by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. In 2018, the partners will continue to build across the state with playgrounds in the Plano, El Paso, Dallas and Houston areas. The BGCCC's mission is to "Enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens". The organization currently serves approximately 9,400 children each year through its after-school, summer and outreach programs. BGCCC serves 74 schools in Collin County and has 22 buses and vehicles which must transport the children to the Clubs. The organization has branches in McKinney, Plano and Frisco and currently operates an on-site school program at Shepton High School in Plano.
