Noted flutist Peter H. Bloom to perform wide-ranging jazz and classical concerts in New England

Flutist Peter H. Bloom, acclaimed for his virtuosity and versatility, will perform in multiple New England venues, featuring jazz standards, new music, masterworks of the French baroque, and free improvisation to animated films.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Dec. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- Flutist Peter H. Bloom will perform Blues, Ballads and Bebop with pianist John Funkhouser at the Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield, MA, on January 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm, with music by Clifford Brown, Hoagy Carmichael, Harold Arlen, Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker and others.  The concert is free and open to the public with reception to follow.

On Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 4:00 pm, The Jean C. Wilson Concert Series will present Ensemble Chaconne (Peter H. Bloom, baroque flute; Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, lutes and early guitars) at the First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St, Newburyport, MA.

On February 22, 2019 at 7:30 pm, Peter will perform at MIT Killian Hall in Cambridge, MA with FiLmprov, an ensemble of stellar improvisers who create spontaneous musical scores for the animated films of Kate Matson.

On Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 7:30 pm, the Colby College Concert Series will present The Modernistics (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Mark Leighton, guitar; Dave Zox, double-bass; Pamela Powers, tap and vocals; and Ted Powers, tap, vocals, guitar and ukulele) in a show of Music and Dance from the Great American Songbook, to be held on the Colby College campus, Page Commons.

On Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 8:00 pm, the venerable Aardvark Jazz Orchestra will continue its 46th season with a concert of premieres and recent works by founder and director Mark Harvey on MIT's mainstage, Kresge Auditorium, 77 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA.  Peter H. Bloom has performed for more than 40 years in Aardvark's renowned woodwind section.

Peter H. Bloom (flute, alto flute, bass flute, and piccolo) concertizes in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand; is featured on 45 recordings; and has given workshops, master classes and lecture-demos across the globe.  He is contributing editor for Noteworthy Sheet Music and is a winner of the American Musicological Society's Noah Greenberg Award.   His career encompasses diverse chamber music from the Renaissance to the 21st century, as well as jazz standards, blues, bebop, free improvisation, and the avant-garde.  The Boston Globe called his playing "a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength," while Jazz Improv hailed his "exquisite melody…the improvisations growing organically out of the theme" and ArtsFuse wrote, "His solos on flute and amplified flute are always highlights of a performance."

Flutist Peter H.
