QUINCY, Mass. - Feb. 5, 2019 - PRLog -- Peak Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, a South Shore practice specializing in unique programs that provide comprehensive treatment in orthopedic, spine and sports medicine specialties, is now offering a lymphedema management program for the South Shore from their Quincy clinic.

Sarah Hanson, PT, DPT, CLT of Dorchester, Massachusetts, will run the program. Lymphedema is swelling that often occurs in extremities after surgery affecting the lymph nodes. Commonly, it may occur after a mastectomy or hysterectomy. However, primary lymphedema can also occur for hereditary or unknown reasons.

Certified lymphedema therapists are trained in complete decongestive therapy which helps to treat the accumulation of fluid through manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging,  and exercise. Education on skin and nail care will also be provided. The program will assist patients in getting fitted for a compression garment for long term use. They will also have a representative available to determine if a patient is appropriate for a pump.

Hanson brings extensive experience in treating a variety of orthopedic conditions including post-operative care, sports rehab, and spine care. She is a certified lymphedema therapist and certified in Graston Technique. She earned her earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northeastern University.

"It is difficult for patients to find expertise in lymphedema management outside of the Boston hospitals so we are pleased to be able to offer them here on the South Shore," said Eric Edelman, PT, owner of Peak Physical Therapy & Sports Performance. "Sarah's expertise and experience in the Boston healthcare system will bring great value to our patients."
