African LGBTI Network launches sexual and gender minority video support campaign

JOHANNESBURG, South Georgia & The SSI - Feb. 16, 2019 - PRLog -- The African LGBTI Network (ALN) aims to repeal discriminative laws and legislation and as such to advance the rights of sexual and gender minorities.

Executive Director and LGBTI Human Rights Advocate Mujahid Williams states: "As sexual and gender minorities we face various discriminative and stigmatisation challenges such as being disowned from our families, being bullied at school, being denied adequate healthcare services, exclusion from socio-economic opportunities. We're victims of hate-crimes and corrective rape. Our minorities from our neighbour countries are prosecuted and murdered."

Stigmatisation and discrimination challenges faced by sexual and gender minorities has great negative consequences. It creates psychological difficulties that often leads to harmful behaviour such as excessive alcohol, drug abuse and suicide. Being bullied at school will eventually lead to dropping out.

Help is often inaccessible in developing countries and especially in our rural communities

Fortunately, many of us have overcome these challenges and we all have our stories to share.

The African LGBTI Network is calling upon you to share your victory video message hoping it will inspire a minority who still has to face these challenges.

Or, if you're not a minority, the African LGBTI Network is asking you to share a message of support to our minorities
