Teen focus groups found that a number of Charles County youth do not participate in any extracurricular activities, and further revealed that young adults wanted a space where they could be creative as well as collaborate and interact with their peers. The focus group findings determined that a recording studio space would address the needs of our community. IMLS determined that the Drop the Mic Recording Studio would be the perfect fit. The CCPL Board of Trustees and C4CCPL provided the additional funds to make the studio a reality. "As centers of learning and catalysts of community change, libraries and museums connect people with programs, services, collections, information, and new ideas in the arts, sciences, and humanities. They serve as vital spaces where people can connect with each other," said IMLS Director Dr. Kathryn K. Matthew. "IMLS is proud to support their work through our grant making as they inform and inspire all in their communities." The Drop the Mic Recording Studio officially opens on March 20, 2019. It is free to use and is available on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations can be made on the CCPL website at https://www.ccplonline.org/ About The Institute of Museum and Library Services The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's libraries and museums.
