By: Julia Cook, author "We are in crisis," says internationally known and beloved children's author Julia Cook who calls Fremont her home. "We had record snowfalls this winter followed by huge amounts of rain. The snow melted quickly, and the rain melted the ice in nearby rivers causing ice jams to form. The water had no place to go so it just went everywhere!" Cook reports that residents of Fremont and surrounding towns have bonded together and created walls of sandbags to attempt to manage the flow of water. Homes, crops, businesses and schools have been devastated. "But we have not lost our will to help each other get through this," says Cook. "Many principals, teachers, and counselors from around the world have contacted me asking if there is anything they can do to help." Please consider a Kids Helping Kids - Wear a Hat for Fremont Day!
