Prasaad Community Kitchen awarded State Department contract

INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Fla. - April 5, 2019 - PRLog -- The American Centre in Kolkata, India collaborated with Prasaad Community Kitchen as their Canteen Partner, catering to their officials at the Center and the Consulate. Prasaad is also the food partner at their events and programmes, besides the daily catering service.

It is a major breakthrough made by the enterprise towards its objective of promoting healthy eating coupled with job opportunities for youth from underserved communities. Tim Forrest, USA Food Consultant, who played an active role in mentoring Prasaad's management, commented , "This initiative expands Prayasam's mission to bring vocational food training to the areas in the most need in Kolkata, India."

Prayasam is a development organization based in Kolkata, India that germinated the concept and idea of Prasaad Community Kitchen.

"I feel that Prasaad is a very unique concept. There are many food vendors in Kolkata, but this expertise interestingly blends cuisine with entrepreneurship. Not only their food quality is excellent but also the service is highly professional", opined Lee A. Calkins, Consular Section Chief.

Upholding their core element of "Culture through Cuisine", Prasaad platter at the American Centre offers traditional cuisines from different states of India. Each day's platter of the week is designed for a particular state's cuisine. And accordingly, their decor is managed with interesting information about the food offered. The Prasaad team ensures that the clients not only enjoy their meals but their canteen is a hub of cultural exchanges through cuisine.

About Prasaad

Prasaad is a low-cost community kitchen which provides hygienic and nutritious food at a subsidized rate. Included in the mission is providing alternative employment and education opportunity to sustain their higher education under its "Earn While Learn" programme as well as enhance their skill development. It mainly specializes in providing nutritious breakfast within the communities to ensure that the people develop a habit of healthy eating. The uniqueness of Prasaad is its simple, nutritious and worldwide inspired recipes.

Functioning since 2015, with its catering service expanding to 3 communities and suburbs of Kolkata, Prasaad is working to ensure better healthy communities, improving the nutrition supplement of community people, office goers, old age people, etc who have lesser alternative to enterprises providing healthy food and have to rely mainly on junk eating or self cooking. Broadly speaking, this concept of low-cost Community Kitchen has been devised to address the 3rd SDG that is ensuring healthy lives and well being for all at all ages.

Prasaad is the brainchild of Prayasam. https://www.prayasam.org/ A development organization and partner of UNICEF working for the last 23 years for all-round development of children and youth from marginalized communities. Prayasam has established itself as a regional expert in child and youth rights. It is currently mentoring different social enterprises and nurturing independently registered youth groups as Community Ambassadors who are working towards their own community's holistic social and economic development. Prayasam mentors the Prasaad team in their hard and soft skill development.

Prasaad has currently provided jobs to 20 youth as alternative employment.
