Celebrate Independent Bookstore Day At The Haunted Book Shop On Saturday, April 27th

Downtown Mobile's only bookstore joins more than 550 independent bookstores in 49 states for parties, author readings, in-store events, and exclusive day-of merchandise

MOBILE, Ala. - April 9, 2019 - PRLog -- Independent Bookstore Day marks its fifth year of celebrating independent bookstores nationwide on Saturday, April 27th, with literary parties around the country.

The Haunted Book Shop at 109 Dauphin St in downtown Mobile, AL, will be celebrating with a whole day of activities, including a children's reading hour, author takeovers at the register, and more, including the Mobile Writer's Guild taking over the Writer's Room and offering advice and critiques all day for aspiring writers. "I'm excited to celebrate independent bookstore day and show the wealth of talent and knowledge indie bookstores provide communities," says Angela Trigg, owner of The Haunted Book Shop.

The Haunted Book Shop will also offer exclusive day-of merchandise created especially for Independent Bookstore Day by major publishers and authors. Since its inception in 2014, more than 200 authors have demonstrated their support for independent bookstores by donating work for Bookstore Day.

The fifth annual National Independent Bookstore Day is sponsored in part by Penguin Random House, Ingram, and The American Booksellers Association. Last year participating bookstores saw an average increase in sales of 200% on Independent Bookstore Day, with some stores up as much as 1000% over their average Saturday sales in April.  In just five years, Independent Bookstore Day has become a book-buying holiday, increasing book sales on a national level.

The 2019 IBD author ambassador Tayari Jones says, "Indie stores stock books by hand and sell them the same way.  They know what we want and need to read because they know us, as people. A writer is not a machine.  A reader is not an app.  We are human beings and so are the independent bookstore workers who show up each day and place books in our hands."

About The Haunted Book Shop

The Haunted Book Shop is named after the beloved former bookstore located in downtown Mobile, operating from 1941 to 1991 when it closed its doors. That bookstore was founded by Adelaide Marston (later Adelaide Trigg) and Cameron Plummer and named for their favorite book, The Haunted Book Shop, by Christopher Morley.

The current bookstore's owner Angela Trigg is the granddaughter of Adelaide Trigg and knows that not only is the store "..haunted by the ghosts of all great literature," (Christopher Morley, The Haunted Book Shop) but that the ghosts of the two book-loving Marston sisters, Adelaide Marston Trigg and Eleanor Marston Benz, are looking down on the endeavor with big, wide grins.
