Scinor Awarded Major Contract to Supply Direct UF Cassette Retrofit and Module Replacement Equipment

NEW YORK - May 30, 2019 - PRLog -- CONTRACT AWARD

Scinor Water America (SWA) was recently awarded a major contract to provide Direct Retrofit UF cassettes and membrane modules to the City of Chesapeake for their Lake Gaston Water Treatment Plant (LGWTP) in Chesapeake, VA. The order is significant as it represents the first such replacement in North America and one of the first globally.

The City of Chesapeake has operated its Lake Gaston Water Treatment Plant (LGWTP) using four trains of submerged membranes since 2006. The City selected Scinor's industry-leading TIPS (thermally-induced phase separation) membranes to replace the existing supported NIPS membranes due to the more robust homogenous fiber construction, higher chemical tolerance and superior permeability characteristics.

The LGWTP treats surface water supplied from the City of Norfolk's Western Branch Reservoir system. The surface water treatment facilities have a rated capacity of 8 mgd and employ a unique direct ultrafiltration membrane process. Treated surface water is blended with disinfected well water prior to pumping to the distribution system.

The membranes will be a drop-in replacement for a single train of UF cassettes and will constitute 2 MGD of the overall 8 MGD plant capacity. The new membranes will undergo a 30-day performance verification test when first installed to achieve final regulatory approval by the Virginia Department of Health. Startup is expected mid-summer 2019.

This new project is in line with the Company's strategic plan to develop a portfolio of unique retrofit solutions including those which have been traditionally more difficult to accomplish, i.e. "cassette" type submerged membranes. Such solutions are highly desired by many municipalities due to a lack of viable alternatives and performance and longevity issues associated with 'NIPS' style membranes.

PRODUCT SHOWCASE

To compliment the milestone installation, Scinor Water America will dedicate a portion of its newly opened facility in Chesapeake VA as a product showcase, in which prospective customers will have the opportunity to gain a hands-on look at the Direct Cassette Retrofit equipment used at the LGWTP, followed by a tour of the facility. All interested parties are encouraged to contact Scinor to schedule such tours.

VIRGINIA AWWA WATERJAM 2019

Parties interested in this installation are urged to attend this year's WaterJAM Conference, September 9 to 12 in Virginia Beach, VA.  Scinor Water America will be exhibiting, and the City of Chesapeake will be hosting a tour of the Lake Gaston plant on Thursday, September 12 from 12:30-3pm. Registration is required. See the link below for more details.
